In recent years there has been a lot of focus on healthy fats. Everyone has heard the dangers of Trans fats and the benefits of Omega 3. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of misinformation perpetrating itself in the public sector. Many consumer-packaged goods are touting claims of being fortified with omega 3 fats. There are even designer eggs featuring increased Omega fatty acids. While it is true that Omega 3, 6, 9 and other fats are necessary for health, clarification is needed.
There are three macronutrients needed to sustain life: protein, carbs, and fats. While fats in general are one of those nutrients, they are not all equal in value. For example, boiled soybean oil does not have the same health benefits as cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. As a culture, people are beginning to see the simplicity of the understanding that has perpetuated society for so many years.
Fats serve as a reserve of energy within the body and function as an integral part of facilitating nutrient utilization. Dr. Weston Price discovered in the 1930’s that cod liver oil and a special type of butter oil extract exhibit an ability to act as a mineral catalyst-literally. Dr. Price found that it even helped to remineralize one of his patient’s teeth.
Another example of this nutrient usage is in the combination of flaxseed oil and vegetable juice while undergoing the Gerson Therapy. It is this interplay of nutrient profiles that magnify the biological benefit when consumed together. The combination of the two drastically improves the benefit of either of the nutrients alone.
Here are a few suggestions for healthy fats. Virgin coconut oil is the best cooking oil. Coconut oil is able to withstand high temperatures without denaturing into undesirable fats. There are multiple decent brands on the market.
A good organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil is also a great healthy fat. It is important to read the labels carefully. Most olive oils on the market, even ones labeled extra virgin, do not contain 100% olive oil. Instead, they often contain highly refined oils. The United States is one of the few countries in the world that produces olives that does not belong to the governing body for production standards and regulations. This results in many companies adding cheap filler oils to olive oil in order to maximize profits. Bariani olive oil, which is produced in California by traditional artisan means, is a personal favorite. Bariani oil is a pressed oil, which keeps the healthy polyphenols intact and maximizes nutrient retention. It is important to note that olive oil should be used either after cooking or only under very low temperatures since it does not withstand most cooking temperatures.
Fish oils are another wonderful source of healthy fats. There are large variances between fish oils on the market. Current focus on fish based oils has been overly on the fatty acid composition, nearly forgetting the traditional nutrient benefits. Most fish oil products have been so highly refined that the majority of the vitamins are actually removed in the process. As a culture, we have reverted back to our simplistic thinking. We rarely see the complexities in interplaying components. We at Renewed Health Supply have been carrying the absolute best Cod Liver oil we can find. It is produced in an artisan manner unlike any other in the USA. We equate this oil to a fine Bordeaux rather than a generic grape juice; same ingredients but a different product altogether.
So for now, pick up some premium Bariani Olive oil, cook with your coconut oil, and use our premium line of supplemental oils to maximize your nutrient profile.
We live in a society that is becoming increasingly more modern and technological. Many of our current woes in life are the direct or at least partial outshoot of an ever-increasing modern society. Case in point is the radiation I am being subjected to while writing this blog on my computer. One of the most overlooked sources of illness in our modern world is our environment. We tend to think only of the affects of temperature and cleanliness and nothing else. Sick Building Syndrome is becoming a real issue for many as the dangers of modern life are beginning to rise into the mainstream. The virtues of good clean air have been extolled for many hundreds of years, yet many forget that their primary residence is tantamount to a chemical nightmare.
Let’s take the example of one moving in to a new home. The first thing most do is clean the home with store bought “cleaners” typically loaded with dozens of toxins that fill our home with every spray. The next stage is painting. Painting with a regular interior paint fills ones living environment for YEARS with constant chemical offgassing. Even the new low or no odor paints still contain dangerous toxins that so many of us try to avoid. I have found one company that produces a nontoxic paint that performs incredibly well called SafeCoat. I used safe paint when doing my own home and have enjoyed having the assurity that my air is as clean as possible. The next stage is bringing in all the new furniture into one’s home. Furniture is usually saturated with chemicals, usually used in the manufacture’s treating of the fabrics. Even new televisions give off chemical gasses. Now that we are moved into the new home, we bombard our systems with nonstop electro magnetic frequencies, EMF. Many people have either their TVs or computers on all the time.
EMF’s negative side affects have been studied for years with no good results. We seem to forget how incredibly detracted we are from the nature world, even having to utilize alarm clocks to wake us. Our homes and workplaces are littered with chemicals and EMF pollution. Those of us who really try to take good care of ourselves usually remember to watch what we eat and drink, exercise, and try to keep up with the current influx of health friendly practices. The one thing we seem to forget is the air we breathe and the environment we live in. We as a society have truly accepted those dangers as just part of normal life and forget the inherent dangers because the societal mass is seeing no harm. The truth is that there is major harm in many of these things. Early childhood illness, cancers, immune impairments, hormonal problems, allergies, and a full gamut of diseases have been shown to result from many of the environmental factors pointed out above.
I am not advocating a return to pre-industrial living since that is unrealistic for the majority of people today. What I am trying to do is create an awareness which should result in a conscious move towards building a healthy lifestyle. One inevitably must paint their house – so use a healthy paint. One will choose to have electricity – so use an EMF shielding device. One must buy furniture – so buy a quality air purifier to absorb the chemicals. The lesson is that we must become holistic in our approach, seeing our choices and there affects on our lives. Don’t simply bury your head and ignore the truth. Make a choice to change what you have the power to change and further your health and those you love for the better. So throw out the potpourri and bring in clean air!
What is the importance of choosing a good quality multi-vitamin? Protein, carbs, and fats are all that the average person knows about nutrition, along with the occasional workplace recommendation to consume vitamin C when getting ill. Obviously one needs those three building blocks, but what about vitamins and minerals? If one were to ask 10 people the opinions would vary greatly. Some would say one gets all the vitamins and minerals needed from your diet. Others would say they never go a day without their one-per-day drugstore multi. Oh how far we are from understanding that health isn't just about getting over that last affliction, but actually building ones system to a different level.
Most people would be surprised to learn that most vitamins are synthetic substances derived typically from coal. The average vitamin actually is seen by the body as a completely foreign substance, much like a drug. The reason the body reacts this way is that isolated nutrients, i.e. niacin, vitamin A, etc, are never seen in nature as a stand-alone food for animals to consume. The nutrients are always in a complex with numerous other cofactors. There is no comparison between a fresh organic carrot and isolated beta-carotene. The carrot has minerals and all the other vitamins in the correct ratios for the body to utilize the beta-carotene.
So are those quoted earlier who claim all the nutrients one needs come from the food they eat correct? It simply isn't true. Today’s soil is so depleted of nutrients that even most organic produce is void of much of what was present 50 years ago. Now don't get to thinking that organics aren't worth the cost. They are worth every penny of difference in cost. Making sure one is not deficient by government standards is critically important. Most people are deficient in a number of different nutrients. In order to keep ones body healthy under serious assaults on their health, more than just the recommended level is needed. When the system is loaded with a full gamut of nutrients, the body begins to operate at a higher level of wellness. One is not just creating expensive urine, but building the system into a vibrant entity.
So with most multi-vitamins rendering useless and with nutrients lacking in our soil, where are we to turn? There is a relatively new technique being used to actually grow vitamins as a food. This is done by hydroponics (farming in water). In essence, a culture of yeast is grown in tanks with added nutrients. This results in the plant growth containing literally hundreds of different cofactors, thus preventing the body from viewing ones multi as a foreign substance. It is, in reality, the same as growing that carrot from earlier in a super soil pumped with nutrients. The body sees the growth as food; not a pill! Containing enzymes, minerals, vitamins, amino acids, trace elements, and complex nutrients; this technology has resulted in the ultimate multi vitamins.
All the different whole food vitamins on the market are equal in quality. Many of them utilize glues, fillers, binders, etc to hold the tablets together. This results in defeating some of the benefit by ingesting unhealthy substances. Vita Synergy is made with none of these substances and is grown with certified organic nutrients. Vita Synergy also has a host of extremely high quality herbs that only add to high-density nutrition. Most store bought herbs are simply powdered and at the best concentrated to 2:1, meaning it took 2 pounds to make 1 pound of concentrate. Many of the herbs in Vita Synergy are 7:1, which is significantly more potent. Being a Whole Food Vitamin and not a synthetic formula, extra measures are taken to preserve the freshness retaining the nutrients integrity. Vita Synergy is packaged in amber glass bottles, vacuum-sealed, contains moisture absorbent packs, and is filled with organic cotton. That’s right organic cotton (to keep the tablets from moving around and breaking). No expense was spared in creating the world’s best multi vitamin. This is a good place to start ones foundation of building health.
